Resource constrained scheduling on multiple machines

چکیده
Abstract. This paper is devoted to Resource Constrained Scheduling. An instance for this problem is given by a set of n jobs with lengths and weights and a set of m machines with capacities. At every time each machine can run arbitrary many jobs in parallel but the total weight of these jobs must not exceed the capacity of the machine. Furthermore the m machines work in parallel and we wish to find a schedule that minimizes the makespan or the sum of completion times. Thus load balancing on a cluster of servers is a typical application for scheduling under resource constraints. For both measures the problem is NP-complete even for m = 1. We show that the problem is approximable within factors of 2 (makespan) and 14.85 (sum of completion times) for arbitrary m.

A Genetic Algorithm and a Model for the Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem with Multiple Crushable Modes
Abstract: This paper presents an exact model and a genetic algorithm for the multi-mode resource constrained project scheduling problem with generalized precedence relations in which the duration of an activity is determined by the mode selection and the duration reduction (crashing) applied within the selected mode. All resources considered are renewable. The objective is to determine a mode, ...
متن کاملAn Energy-efficient Mathematical Model for the Resource-constrained Project Scheduling Problem: An Evolutionary Algorithm
In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient mathematical model for the resource-constrained project scheduling problem to optimize makespan and consumption of energy, simultaneously. In the proposed model, resources are speed-scaling machines. The problem is NP-hard in the strong sense. Therefore, a multi-objective fruit fly optimization algorithm (MOFOA) is developed. The MOFOA uses the VIKO...
متن کاملThe Combinatorial Multi-Mode Resource Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem
This paper presents the formulation and solution of the Combinatorial Multi-Mode Resource Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem. The focus of the proposed method is not on finding a single optimal solution, instead on presenting multiple feasible solutions, with cost and duration information to the project manager. The motivation for developing such an approach is due in part to practica...

In this study, we aim to present a new model for the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) considering a working calendar for project members and determined the skill factor of any member using the efficiency concept. For this purpose, the recyclable resources are staff resources where any person with multiple skills can meet the required skills of activities in a given time. ...
متن کاملThe preemptive resource-constrained project scheduling problem subject to due dates and preemption penalties: An integer programming approach
Extensive research has been devoted to resource constrained project scheduling problem. However, little attention has been paid to problems where a certain time penalty must be incurred if activity preemption is allowed. In this paper, we consider the project scheduling problem of minimizing the total cost subject to resource constraints, earliness-tardiness penalties and preemption penalties, ...
متن کاملA Preemptive multimode resource constrained project scheduling model with cash flows
Resource constrained project scheduling problem is one of the most important issues in project planning and management. The objective function of this problem is to minimize the completion time of a project. When there is budget constraint or high risk for investment, using the criteria such as cash flows is so important. The development of computer systems and processors makes it possible to t...
